What is ImageFlowing

ImageFlowing is a ‘living’ photograph that reproduces the biometric signs of the photographer. Viewers can feel how the photographer felt through photographer’s breathing, heartbeats and skin temperature. We extend a two-dimensional picture into a multi-modal experience, aiming at creating a tighter emotional link between the viewer and the photographer.

ImageFlowing 2.0

By inviting blind people to be the photographer, we heralded the fact that ImageFlowing could even allow blind people to convey their own attitudes toward life.

After the first version was exhibited in Shinjuku, Tokyo, ImageFlowing was given the opportunity to exhibit in siggraph2022 Emerging Technologies, and we improved and increased the functionality of ImageFlowing from May to August 2022.

1.In terms of haptics, we added the device to feel the wind blowing. It reproduces the magnitude of the wind when the photographer takes a picture. The audience can feel the wind blowing on their hands and feel the environment where the photographer took the photo more immersively.

2.At the same time, we have improved the way the photographer’s heartbeat is communicated. The viewer no longer needs to wear a vibration module on the wrist to feel the heartbeat, but to feel the excitement of the heartbeat transmitted from the bottom of the hand by touching the hand-shaped device feel deeply.

3.The photographs on display were conveyed through electronic screens, demonstrating that ImageFlowing can be used not only for paper photographs but also for electronic screens.

4. In addition to conveying the sense of breathing with light and dark photos, we also added color and saturation changes.
